Legal Secretary
Under direction, performs highly responsible, complex clerical and secretarial work of a legal nature. Responsibilities include public contact with the ability to articulate both orally and in correspondence proficiently and professionally with the public, law enforcement, Judges and District Attorneys. Requires word processing proficiency and experience. Requires independent judgement in resolving various problems within established guidelines and procedures. Work is generally reviewed by supervisors through observation of operations.
Duties include but are not limited to Secretarial/Computer Operation, Public Relations, Legal Research, Filing, Records Management and General Administrative Support.
Clerk I
Routine clerical work which follows well-established procedures. Employees in this class are responsible for the performance of clerical tasks which can be readily learned by training on the job, requiring limited judgment of their execution. Detailed instructions are given at the beginning of the work and on subsequent new assignments. However, as employees become familiar with the procedures, they may work with independence of action on the more routine aspects of the work. Advice is given to employees on unusual problems and on new assignments by their supervisor.
Duties and Responsibilities
District Attorney Office Work
Assists attorneys and public in locating records.
General Clerical
Maintains various types of records and files. Answers phone and provides general information. Assists public and co-workers performing routine tasks as directed by supervisor. Employee will perform related work as required.
Job Specifications
Knowledge skills and abilities
Some knowledge of modern office practices and procedures, basic skills in the operation of common office computer, copiers and multi-line phones. Ability to follow and understand oral and written instructions as required. Ability to accurately maintain simple clerical records. Ability to write legibly as required. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public. Ability to learn assigned clerical tasks readily.
